How to name my security system components

What’s in a name?

Shakespeare may have had lovelorn Romeo in mind when he wrote that, but it’s something to keep in mind in other circumstances — including, surprisingly, when assembling the security system components of your DIY home security system kit from BlueAccess.

Depending on the size of your home, and the amount of coverage you want to spread over your property, you may be picking up multiple items, many of them identical, such as numerous cameras or outdoor lights.

You’ll want those security system components properly labeled for when the time comes to install your equipment and, luckily, BlueAccess lets you start that process before you’re even done shopping.

As you checkout online, you’ll be prompted to name each item in your bundle, allowing for easy identification of where you want to install each item once it arrives. BlueAccess will label each security system components accordingly so that you can take one glance at a component and know exactly where you want it to go before you’ve even opened the box. This actually speeds up your installation process quite a bit!

Now, to make this work, you’ll want to make sure you choose your names carefully.

After all, you don’t want to name a camera Janice when it’s clearly more of a Roberta.

Well, actually, unless you have some odd system where you’ve named each corner of your house after an ex-girlfriend or something, you’ll probably want to pick names that are much more blatant in what they represent.

Don’t bother with clever or obscure titles. Just go with the obvious — that camera you plan to plant just above the living room window? Name it “Living Room Window.” The one by little Suzie’s upper window, where the tree branches reach out? “Suzie.” The camera at the backdoor that faces the dark alley? “Back door.” Simple and obvious.

When the time comes, you’ll have that name listed with the security system component and know exactly where you want to put it once you are ready to install.

As long as you complete the package customizer at checkout, the names come pre-programmed, so when you’re checking each camera angle from your security console, they’ll be properly identified on screen, so you don’t have to remember that that odd dutch angle there is the crooked camera you installed just under the attic eaves, because it will literally say where you can easily see it, “Attic,” making quick observation a breeze.

By combining these easy steps before you’re even done checking out, BlueAccess strips out several steps in the installation process before you’re even started, making it easier on you in multiple ways.

So, take advantage of the naming process provided with BlueAccess and make your new security system simpler and quicker to use than you’d dare hoped.

Just don’t name your components anything that will get you in trouble with anyone else taking a casual look at your equipment. For instance, please do NOT name the camera by the room where your son-in-law has crashed ever since he quit his job and hasn’t been looking since, “Deadbeat.” There are subtler ways, we promise, to fix that problem, but BlueAccess isn’t involved in them.
