Can a home security system fail?

You’ve just installed your shiny new BlueAccess home security system. The components are all in place, the programming is all done, your passcode inputted and the system armed for the first time. It will be all smooth sailing from here, you tell yourself. You’ll never have to worry about security again.

Well, probably not.

Although it’s not something anyone wants to think about, your home security system can fail or be compromised in some ways. From basic human error to weather conditions to natural wear and tear, certain circumstances can make your system less than 100 percent effective or possibly leave you unprotected without correction.

Thankfully, careful attention to your home security system and regular maintenance can alleviate almost any possible issues that can result in the failure of your home security system.

Here are some things that can negatively affect your home security system and measures you can take to mitigate such issues.

  • Neglect. The BlueAccess systems are easy to install and use on your own, but it’s important to learn the ins and outs of the system and do what’s necessary to keep it up to date and ready to use. Read all documentation, make sure to integrate software updates and keep everything in top top shape.
  • Poor recordings. Those outdoor cameras are exposed to the elements, which can mean they can be pelted with rain, snow and a number of other issues. Check them regularly to clean them and keep images from becoming foggy and unclear.
  • Obstructed views. In a similar vein, also make sure your cameras remain unblocked by dirt, debris, bird’s nests or anything else that might prevent your carefully placed recording devices from seeing all they should. Semi-regular check-ups can help with this situation as well.
  • False alarms. Make sure to stay on top of your devices and keep an eye on what’s tripping any alarm, so that you don’t end up calling the police out for a stray cat, rather than a cat burglar.
  • Forgetfulness. Human error is often at the root of many problems, and nothing can present more of a problem for an alarm system than not remembering the passcode to arm and disarm your alarm. Either you end up with another false alarm, or you end up not arming your system, leaving it ineffective at securing your home. Also, even if you do know your passcode, forgetting to arm your alarm when you leave the home leaves your property unprotected by the very system you purchased to secure it.

Overall, there are any number of minor issues that can cause a problem down the line for your system, if you let it.

Regular maintenance and careful use of the system, however, should keep it in top shape, ready to use when necessary to protect you, your loved ones and your home.

By following these simple steps to keep everything in order, your BlueAccess security system and the various components that feed into the network are unlikely to fail when you and your family need it most.
