Ways to secure your home besides an alarm system
When looking to secure your home and keep it safe from outside intrusion, there’s no better solution than a home security system, particularly an alarm system. Few things can dissuade a would-be burglar than the incessant ring of an alarm system, and it’s one of the most effective ways to protect a property any homeowner could want.
But there are other ways to keep your house safe and secure your home without an alarm system. While none of them can compare to an alarm system, particularly the DIY home security kits from BlueAccess, there are various other ways to keep intruders at bay.
There are various methods to keep your home safe and relatively secure even without an alarm system installed.
Some include taking basic precautions around the house: keeping the doors locked, closing windows, closing the garage door and otherwise making sure there are no easy ways in for unwanted visitors. Many of these are things you would need to do anyway with an alarm system installed and are basic common sense for keeping ingress limited.
Others include adding some additional hardware around the house to discourage invaders. Adding extra lighting around the outside of the house, making dark corners visible is an easy way to keep people from sneaking around in the dark. Motion lighting is especially useful, as the light will only come on should someone or something draw near, meaning a sudden flare of light could identify an attempted intrusion.
Cameras are a good idea, as well. Even without an alarm, a good spread of cameras around the outside of the house can show when someone suspicious is lurking around the house and give the homeowner advance warning of a possible break-in attempt.
For a more high-maintenance option, homeowners can get a dog. Expensive to keep and requiring time to train and maintain, dogs are not a great choice for security purposes alone. But, if one is already thinking of getting a dog as a pet, or already has one, a dog can be a great line of defense in alerting homeowners to intruders. They also might bark at anything else, including nothing at all.
A dog can also be a useful deterrent against intruders in that they will attack would-be invaders, but not only does this only really work if the dog is big enough, some dogs are so friendly, they’ll approach strangers happily without a bit of alarm; so dogs as security warnings must be taken on a case by case basis, depending heavily on the size and temperament of the dog.
Depending on your neighborhood, you might have a local Neighborhood Watch organization that keeps an eye on homes in the community, which can be a useful way to keep your home under observation and meet your neighbors — which can be good or bad, depending on the neighbors.
It is not advised, however, that you leave a child at home with instructions to booby trap the home against prospective intruders, no matter how good they are at elaborate death traps for the unwary invader.
Overall, there are many ways to keep your home relatively safe, with or without an alarm system.
However, all such methods work even better in concert with an alarm, particularly those from BlueAccess and their line of DIY security system home kits.
No matter how you keep your home secure, make sure it works best for you and your needs. Stay safe.
