Motion sensors play vital role in complete home security system

What, exactly, is a motion sensor? What does it actually do and what can’t it do? And why is a motion detector a vital part of a full home security system?

Device can detect movement outside your home long before other levels of defense kick in

When you hear the words “motion detector,” you likely imagine some fancy sci-fi gadget, perhaps with a beeping radar screen on it, frantically signaling the heroes as the alien threat draws ever closer in tension-riddled sequences scored to screaming violins.

That’s not what a modern motion sensor does as part of one component in a home security system. If you’re looking to hunt the Predator, you’ll have to find time to bleed on your own terms.

No, a motion sensor is a device that seeks out any movement in its range of infrared vision and relays it to the central alarm system for further action.

Motion sensors are invaluable tools if used correctly as part of an overall home security system.

BlueAccess uses a Wireless Motion Detector that is a passive infrared motion seensor designed for use with their PowerG-compatible alarm systems. It is highly effective in detecting motion using fresnel and cylindrical lenses, and it can actively distinguish between humans and other motion sources.

The motion sensor monitors its field of view for changes in passive infrared energy that are caused by movement in the area. If a significant change in Infrared energy is detected, the sensor will send an alert to the alarm system to let it know that there is motion present. The system will then perform the programmed response for that zone.

This usually does not involve activating the alarm outright. Even if it’s a person, not a deer or raccoon, slipping up on your house in the dark, activating the alarm immediately is potentially premature. It might be your teenage son, trying to slip in after curfew, which certainly merits attention, but not police action. It might be entirely innocuous.

It might not. Generally,  if motion is detected, the security system can activate a motion sensor light to flood the area with light, as well as alert your phone with the activity, including sending video surveillance footage to your phone so you can see if it’s your neighbor Mark sleepwalking through the shrubbery again or an actual would-be home invader on the prowl.

In the latter case, if the light hasn’t already scared off the potential burglar, you can activate the alarm manually and summon the police to deal with the intruder if they stick around. The motion sensor gives you the ability to make that decision before further action by the burglar makes it for you.

The motion sensors can also be paired with door and window sensors, which are activated when someone attempts to enter a locked entry, to further provide a web of digital protection over your home.

Motion sensors are on the frontline of monitoring your property for threats and make an ideal first line of defense.

BlueAccess has exactly what you need to fully build the DIY home security system of your dreams to make your home a bastion against home invasion.
